Music Streaming in 2020: How do you vibe??

With streaming music seemingly at every turn these days, how are you digesting new music once it drops every Friday? Even better, a week later, are you still even listening to said albums & tracks?

2020 has been a wild time for everything but especially for music.

Sharing by word of mouth street teams & touring has all but come to a screeching halt, two things that most certainly help artists & bands survive.

Streaming, however is alive and well. Music executives think upwards of 450 million users will be streaming music by the end of 2020.

Huge numbers of users means huge amounts of plays…and MONEY!

The three songs above are interesting, in that they incapsulate 4 of the biggest artists in the US today, yet fell the second week of streaming.

Why is that?

Did people outright quit listening? Yes & No.

Based on radio audience, sales & streams these songs dropped out of the top ten after being #1 the following week. Most likely due to the flooding of music every Thursday night at midnight that hits streaming services.

These songs are also hilariously part of a bigger story from earlier this summer when Witness protections own, 6ixNine, made accusations against YouTube over streams and sales.

So I put the ball back in your court.

Do you still go back? How do you know how to differentiate what you deem “Timeless” music versus what you don’t?

The pandemic has created the perfect storm in that a large percentage of people who are at home, are able to ingest things like music & movies more privately.

Maybe more of us need to take Andrew’s approach, & need to be selective to a certain degree, I know I certainly am!

Much Love & always Double Up,

  1. This is an interesting subject. I think you could be right about the over saturation of streaming services with new music. Too much music is never a bad thing though. Hopefully it will give new folks a crack at that number 1 spot.
